<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a holder for an optical module with which an optical element package containing an optical element is simply positioned in a short time period. <P>SOLUTION: A holder 1 constituting an optical module is provided with the optical element package having a built-in optical element, and optically couples the optical element and an optical fiber. The holder 1 is further provided with a sleeve 10 having an insertion hole 11 into which a ferrule arranged at an end of the optical fiber is inserted, a fixing section 20 to which the optical element package is fixed, and a lens unit 30 arranged between the sleeve 10 and the fixing section 20. The sleeve 10 has an alignment plane 13 arranged opposite to an opening end face 12 of the insertion hole 11.
