<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a bipolar electrosurgical instrument having a novel composition. <P>SOLUTION: The bipolar electrosurgical instrument for clamping, grasping, operating and sealing a tissue includes first and second shafts (having each jaw members 110 and 120 and a handle). The handle can operate for moving the jaw members against each other from a first position. At the first position, the jaw members are disposed so that they are to be disposed against each other at the second position, with a gap therebetween, and at the second position, the jaw members cooperate to grasp the tissue between them. This bipolar instrument can be connected to a supply source of electric energy having first electric potential to be connected to one of the jaw members and second electric potential to be connected to the other so that the jaw members may conduct the energy selectively through the tissue held between them so as to perform sealing.
