The present invention relates to an industrial chemical reactor for the continuous production of alkyl alkylates, in particular by means of an esterification reaction between a carboxylic acid and an alcohol. Specifically, the invention relates to a vertical tubular plug flow reactor that includes perforated plates distributed along the reactor, and a means for interrupting the reactor supply flow, said reactor being especially suitable for an esterification reaction between an alcohol and a carboxylic acid.
