<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing glass containing at least one component from Bi<SP POS="POST">3+</SP>, Ti<SP POS="POST">4+</SP>, Nb<SP POS="POST">5+</SP>and W<SP POS="POST">6+</SP>which permits stable production of high-quality optical glass with little coloration and a high refractive index, and also to provide a method for manufacturing glass material for press molding or an optical element from the glass manufactured by the method. <P>SOLUTION: A molten glass 2 is contained in a melting pot 1 whose surface that comes into contact with the molten glass 2 is made of a noble metal or a noble metal alloy. The molten glass 2 is brought into contact with an electrode 3. The surface of the electrode 3 that comes into contact with the molten glass 2 is made of a noble metal or a noble metal alloy having a standard electrode potential greater than the standard electrode potential of the noble metal or noble metal alloy of the melting pot. A potential is applied so that the surface of the melting pot 1 that comes into contact with the molten glass 2 serves as a cathode and the electrode 3 serves as an anode. A voltage is applied between the cathode and the anode, with the value of the potential at which the current flowing between the cathode and anode substantially goes to zero as the upper limit thereof, to inhibit corrosion of the surface of the melting pot 1 that comes into contact with the molten glass 2. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
