<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an aqueous emulsion excellent in wettability onto a metal surface. <P>SOLUTION: The aqueous emulsion includes: a dispersant containing a polyvinyl alcohol resin having a 1,2-diol structural unit represented by general formula (1); a polymer having a structural unit derived from an ethylenic unsaturated monomer as a dispersoid; and 10-40 wt.% of a 1-4C alcohol to a nonvolatile content in the aqueous emulsion.
