<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To allow a receiver to receive, store, and externally output contents distributed from a network. <P>SOLUTION: A receiving device comprises: first recording means for receiving digital contents containing compression-encoded video and audio signals and conversion propriety information indicating whether conversion by a compression coding system and/or sign bit rate conversion can be performed via a network, associating the received digital contents with the received conversion propriety information, and recording the associated contents and information in a first recording medium; second recording means for reading the digital contents recorded in the first recording medium and recording the contents in a second recording medium; conversion propriety determination means; digital contents conversion means; and selection means for displaying and selecting a choice of whether to perform conversion. If "Perform conversion" is selected when the digital contents are recorded in the second recording medium, the receiving device converts the digital contents read from the first recording medium and records them in the second recording medium. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
