<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a wind power generator generating a power in a wide range of a wind speed area, and also to provide a method for operating the generator. <P>SOLUTION: A rotary shaft is rotated on an axis line by a vane receiving wind, and the rotation of the rotary shaft is transmitted to a plurality of generators 22, 22 via a transmitter. The plurality of generators 22, 22 controlled by a controller 44 are rotated by the rotary shaft to generate a power. The controller 44 controls the number of generators 22 to generate a power, based on the wind speed of the wind blowing onto the vane, or the rotation speed of the rotary shaft. For example, the number of generators 22 to generate the power, is increased when the wind speed, or the rotation speed of the rotary shaft is increased, while the control to decrease the number of generators 22 to generate the power, when the wind speed or the rotation speed of the rotary shaft is decreased, is made.
