Provided is a liquid crystal display device that, when 3-D display, etc. is implemented, can be low cost and make differences in brightness on the screen small while reducing crosstalk. A liquid crystal display device (1) is provided with: light sources (10a, 10b) divided top and bottom on a liquid crystal panel (13); a liquid crystal drive control unit that carries out drive control that repeatedly inserts single color signals intermittently for each line in synchrony with writing of an image signal to the liquid crystal panel (13); and a light source light emission control unit that carries out light emission control such that each of the light sources divided top and bottom on the liquid crystal panel (13) is repeatedly turned on and off intermittently according to drive control of the liquid crystals and causes the current supplied to each light source to change.
