<p>The present invention relates to PCBN compacts, more specifically, to a PCBN compact comprising cBN; a secondary hard phase selected from the transition metal carbides, nitrides, carbonitrides and mixtures thereof; a superalloy bonding phase; optionally an added transition metal aluminide; and optionally a small amount of a suitable oxide, preferably, aluminium oxide or yttrium oxide. More particularly, the cBN compact comprises 30 to 70 volume % of a polycrystalline mass of cubic boron nitride particles; 70 to 30 volume % of a matrix phase, and a superalloy. The matrix phase comprises a secondary hard phase selected from a transition metal carbide, nitride, carbonitride and a mixture thereof.</p> |
