<p>The thermionic and photoelectric generators comprise intermetallic compounds as low work function materials. The intermetallic compounds consist of an electron donor including cesium, calcium, strontium, barium, yttrium or rare earth elements, and an electron acceptor including germanium, tin, lead, magnesium, aluminum, indium, gallium, thallium, arsenic, antimony or bismuth. The intermetallic compounds comprise germanides, stannides, plumbides, aluminides indides, gallides, thallides, arsenides, antimonides or bismuthides of rare earth metals.
