The method involves determining three-dimensional (3D) co-ordinates of points of an object arrangement e.g. manufacturing plant (10), with respect to given origin of co-ordinates. A scatter-plot representation (14) of the object arrangement is created based on the determined coordinates. Coherent surface elements in the scatter-plot representation are detected. A 3D CAD representation (18) of the object arrangement is created. A CAD-model of the object arrangement is created based on the representation. Control geometry elements are detected based on the surface elements.
