The camera (1) has a housing (2) for accommodating optical and electronic camera components, and a display (4) i.e. touchscreen-display, arranged on a housing rear wall (3) of the housing. Electromechanical adjusting elements (5) e.g. scrolling wheels, slider or track ball, are arranged at the housing for adjusting camera and/or menu functions, where the functions are partially displayed on the display in the form of spatially limited application fields (6) i.e. camera-apps. The adjusting elements are arranged in direct proximity to the application fields. An independent claim is also included for a method for controlling and operating a digital camera.
