<p>PURPOSE: A GPS(global positioning system) compensating system and method are provided to extract location information of high precision which is similar to a DGPS(differential global positioning system) apparatus of the high precision while using a low priced GPS apparatus. CONSTITUTION: An image recognizing device(220) has a lane recognition function. A road map storing unit(230) stores road map information including lane characteristic information. A road map receiving unit(240) receives the road map information. A calculation processing device(100) compares lane recognition information recognized in the image recognizing device with the lane characteristic information and compensates a current location measured in a GPS module and calculates running lane information.
