<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily and exactly estimate characteristics of illumination light. <P>SOLUTION: An illumination characteristic holding part 104 holds a table in which a relation between image data of a patch which a chart has, acquired by photographing the chart under a plurality of illumination beams with different characteristics and characteristics is recorded for every photographing apparatus for the chart, and for every printing condition for the chart. In an UI part 105, specification information on a photographing apparatus 12 to be used for estimation of the characteristics of the illumination beams, and printing conditions for the chart to be used for the estimation of the characteristics of the illumination beams are input as estimation conditions. In an input part 101, the image data of the chart, photographed with the photographing apparatus 12 under the illumination beams is input.
