The method involves inserting or removing a clean swab (102) of a wire (100) into a cavity (104) of a medical device (106). The clean swab is introduced into a transparent test vessel using a holder fixed at an end of the wire for detection of adenosine triphosphate (ATP) or adenosine monophosphate (AMP). The clean swab is left in the test container for predetermined time. The test container is introduced into the measuring device for luminescence measurement.
