摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize both high precision and high-speed processing. <P>SOLUTION: In collating a reference image with a registered image, with respect to the reference image, its original image is used as a high-resolution image (layer image I0) having the highest resolution, a first low-resolution image (layer image I1) is created in its lower layer, and a second low-resolution image (layer image I2) is further created in its lower layer. A registered image is read one by one, feature regions S0, S1, S2 are set in layer images J0, J1, J2 of the registered image, and corresponding regions S2', S1', S0' in the reference image are searched for through hierarchical searching from the low-resolution image toward the high-resolution image.
