The disclosure concerns computing systems of financial institutions and computing systems that interact and support functions of financial institutions, including porting of addresses between financial institutions. When implemented as a computer 104, the computer (104) enables, in communication with a network the association of a user identifier with a gaining financial institution (FI) (103), wherein the user identifier is associated with an original FI (102). The computer (104) receives from the gaining FI (103) a request to associate the user identifier with the gaining FI (103). The computer (104) then sends to the original FI (102) the request. In response, the computer 104 receives from the original FI (102) a confirmation of the request and stores in computer storage a change in the association of the user identifier from the original FI (102) to the gaining FI (103). As a result, a user can change accounts and FIs without having to also change the user identifier.
