The drive shaft (1) comprises a damping element (10) for damping torsional vibration. The damping element has a sleeve (3) circumferentially surrounding the drive shaft. A damping layer (4) is applied below an intermediate layer on an outer peripheral surface, particularly the outer peripheral surface of the drive shaft. The sleeve comprises two interconnected sleeve segments. The sleeve is made of hard paint, ceramic, metal or plastic material.
