461,329. Bellows. KING, A. C. Aug. 15, 1935, No. 22954. [Class 8 (i)] [Also in Group VI] A bellows employed in resuscitation has driving means operated by the gas supplied to the patient. The bellows 7, connected to the patient through a regulating valve 9 and pipe 10, is connected by a rod 8 to a piston 5 within a cylinder 2. The bellows is connected by a pipe 6 to a valve casing 1 which is also connected by pipes 3, 4, to the opposite ends of the cylinder 2 and by a pipe 1a to gas under pressure. A rotary valve within casing 1 in one setting connects pipes 1a and 4, and pipes 3 and 6, thus forcing up the piston 5, compressing the bellows 7 and displacing gas above the piston into the bellows ; in the other setting the valve connects pipes 1a and 4, and pipes 4 and 6, the piston being thereby reversed, the bellows opened and the charge beneath the piston displaced into the bellows. The valve is actuated by movements of the piston a rod 12 on which carries a cross-piece 13 carrying a spring or a pair of springs 15 connected to a lever or levers 16 secured to the valve. Adjustable stops 18 limit the movement of the valve and a rod 17a connected to an extension of lever 16 permits correct setting of the valve on starting. An excess pressure release valve 11 is provided for the bellows and a vacuum release valve may also be provided. |
