<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a composition high in safety to living body, excellent in uptake easiness such as swallowability, and effective for preventing or treating chronic kidney diseases. <P>SOLUTION: The composition for preventing or treating chronic kidney diseases (CKD), containing an alginate, is provided, wherein the alginate is preferably is sodium or potassium salt. Chronic kidney diseases to be objects of prevention or treatment for this composition are involved in patients as subjects having the risks or diagnosed as CKD in no relation to the presence/absence of diabetes.
