The present invention provides a method for removing carbon monoxide by contacting a gas containing carbon monoxide with a solution containing quinones, under the presence of at least one type of a metal porphyrin complex selected from the group consisting of a rhodium porphyrin complex and a cobalt porphyrin complex. According to the method of the present invention, carbon monoxide contained in a fuel cell anode gas or the like can be removed effectively without using any complicated devices.
