[Classes 83 (i) and 83 (ii)] Casting.-Articles such as rods of welding metal are made from the outer, and therefore purer, metal 4 of a cast steel ingot 1 by rolling the ingot flat, Fig. 5, cutting off the outer portions 4<a>, and then grooving and severing the parts longitudinally to form rods which may be rounded by rolling or drawing, Fig. 8, e.g. in apparatus as described in U.S.A. Specification 1,136,373. The left over part of the ingot can be used for other purposes.
