[Class 131] A powder puff comprises a base having an inturned rim, the bent-over surface of which is connected to the base by adhesive, and the inner periphery of which defines a recess, and a piece of pile material located inside the recess wholly within the periphery and connected to the base by adhesive. The base consists of a strip of fabric 1, coated on one face with adhesive 2, and a sheet of heavy flexible paper 6 coated on each face with adhesive layers 7, 8. These are joined together under pressure and the base is bent by dies to the shape shown in Fig. 5. The pile fabric 9 coated with adhesive 11 and secured to adhesive-coated paper 6a fits into the recess of the base. The pile fabric may be cut by a tool which does not cut the upstanding fibres so that a puff as shown in Fig. 7 is obtained. Buckram, leather or imitation leather may replace the paper. The adhesives employed may be rubber cements or latex adhesives with or without fillers, vulcanizers and accelerators. |
