The present invention relates to an apparatus (1) and a method for inactivating allergens in a fluid by UV radiation treatment, said apparatus (1) comprising - a housing (10) comprising and extending between a fluid inlet (11) and a fluid outlet (12);
- a fan (20) for generating and stimulating a fluid flow from the fluid inlet (11) through the housing (10) to the fluid outlet (12);
- a UV treatment chamber (30) in said housing (10) downstream relative to said fluid inlet (11), the UV treatment chamber (30) comprising at least one UV radiation source (31) for exposing said fluid flow to UV radiation for inactivating allergenic molecules present in said fluid flow; and
- control means arranged in said fluid flow from the fluid inlet (11) through the housing (10) to the fluid outlet (12) so as to control parameters relevant for the allergen inactivation in said fluid.
