A method is provided for making a composite material from strips comprising longitudinal fibres and a binder or resin. The strips are deposited in a pattern with strips extending in a first direction and other strips extending in a second direction, such that the completed composite material everywhere comprises multiple layers of strips one on top of the other, wherein the strips are positioned according to a regular pattern in a common plane exclusively by depositing them in said common plane without interweaving a strip with previous strips already deposited in said common plane, such that in the completed composite material at least a major part of the deposited strips at different places define different ones of the layers of strips positioned one on top of the other.
