Apparatus for detection of tenting at a surgical site, comprises a probe comprising: a force sensor configured to measure a force exerted by the probe on tissue of a patient; and a position transducer configured to measure a displacement of the probe while the force sensor is measuring the force; and a processor which is configured to detect a tenting of the tissue responsively to a relation between the measured force and the measured displacement.
