[Class 144 (i)] A machine for rolling-down the tread or other tyre components on a rotary building- drum comprises spinning-discs 16. 19 engaged by a right-andleft threaded spindle 1, the traverse of the discs in both directions being controlled by the relative angular velocities of the discs and the spindle. In the operative traverse, the discs are rotated by contact with the drum and in the reverse direction they are automatically braked, the spindle being driven continuously in the same direction of rotation. In the apparatus shown. the spindle 1 is mounted between the arms 2, 3 of a yoke 4 arranged to be rocked towards the drum by the piston of a power-cylinder 5. The latter is fitted with a distributing-valve 23 which is normally moved to exhaust by a spring 31, and moved to admit fluid to the cylinder by means of a hand-lever 24. A detent device 27, 28 holds the lever 24 in the latter position until disengaged by abutment of a brakemember 21 with the spring-loaded rod 29 at the end of the operative traverse of the discs. In this movement, the shoes 21 are separated, by the pressure of the discs, against the pull of springs 22. On the release of the detent and the lever 24, the valve 23 is operated to exhaust the cylinder 5, and the yoke 4 falls (by gravity) to move the discs away from the drum. The brakes 21 are then operative to hold the discs against rotation in which condition they are moved to the initial position shown by the continued rotation of the spindle. |
