482,550. Batteries. BALBI, C. M. R. April 23, 1937, No. 11713. [Class 53] A casing for a dry battery is provided with terminals 4, 8 which are connected through a resistance with contacts within the casing which engage the battery terminals. Means are provided for cutting out the resistance when the battery is partly exhausted. The Figureshows a casing comprising two metal walls 3, 31 and two walls 2, 2<1> of wood or other insulating material for holding a two-cell battery having a top terminal strip and a side terminal 10. The casing is open at the bottom and closed at the top by an insulating cover which carries the terminals 4, 8. The terminal 8 is connected to a metal strip 7 secured to the under surface of the cover and which makes contact with the top terminal of the battery. The casing walls 3, 31 are both connected to the terminal 4, the wall 3 directly through a metal strip 5, the wall 3<1> through a resistance 6. When the terminals 4, 8 are connected to an outside circuit, the resistance 6 is included or cut out according as the battery is so placed in the casing that the terminal 10 is in contact with the wall 3<1> or the wall 3. Alternatively the resistance may be connected between the strip 7 and terminal 8 a switch being provided to short-circuit the resistance when required. |
