A rotor core assembly (fig 2) comprises a magnet 4, first and second end-caps 5,6, secured by adhesive 16 to respective ends of the magnet, and a shaft 3 that extends into the magnet and end cap bores, the shaft forming a clearance fit with the magnet and an interference fit with each of the end-caps, an adhesive 18 being located in the clearance. The shaft is inserted into the end cap bore, adhesive being introduced into the magnet bore via tube 40, the insertion of the shaft into the magnet bore creating a wet seal between the shaft and magnet causing adhesive to be drawn into the clearance defined between the magnet and the shaft. Figs 4a-4d illustrate the mounting of a sleeve 7 to the subassembly of end-caps and magnet, the sleeve receiving the sub-assembly within an adhesive bath, the sleeve forming an interference fit with each of the end-caps and a clearance fit with the magnet which retains the adhesive 17 therein. Alternatively, the complete subassembly of sleeve, magnet and end-caps is inserted into an adhesive bath, a notch in the edge of an end cap allowing adhesive to enter (figs 6-8). The adhesives 16-18 may be different.
|
