The invention relates to an ultrahigh molecular weight polyethylene (UHMwPE) yarn and to a method for producing thereof. The invention also relates to a medical device comprising the yarn. A UHMwPE yarn is provided having a diameter of 30μm or more and a residual spin solvent of less than 100 ppm, wherein the yarn is a gel-spun monofilament.
