<p>PURPOSE: A portable terminal and a mode control method thereof are provided to rapidly and conveniently input a screen conversion command and a mode conversion command by using a conversion command input pattern. CONSTITUTION: One or more OS(Operating Systems) creates a plurality of modes including a first and a second mode. One or more applications are executed in one or more modes. A control unit(180) obtains a conversion command by using the input pattern of a conversion command. When the conversion command is a mode conversion command, the control unit executes a mode conversion operation between the modes. When the conversion command is a screen conversion command, the control unit converts screens corresponding to activated modes.
