Instrumented roller bearing assembly for railway axle and corresponding method of assembling

The assembly has a bearing with rolling bodies (4) placed between a rotatable inner ring (2) and a fixed outer ring (3). An annular magnetic coder (6) e.g. phonic wheel, is fixed to a rotatable spacer (5). A fixed magnetic sensor (7) detects displacement of the coder. An annular non-magnetic deflector (8) is connected to the outer ring. The deflector has a cylindrical part (81) placed at the exterior and remote from the coder, and a non-magnetic wall placed between the sensor and the coder. The deflector has an axial end (83) whose inner diameter is less than the outer diameter of the coder. An independent claim is also included for a method for assembling an instrumented bearing assembly.
