PURPOSE: A cylinder unit for an internal combustion engine is provided to minimize energy losses by offsetting the idling as explosions are alternately generated from odd and even combustion chambers. CONSTITUTION: An cylinder unit(100) for an internal combustion engine comprises a cylinder block(110), sliding guides(130a), a plurality of piston heads, and intake and exhaust valves. Air and fuel mixture is burned in the cylinder block. The intake and exhaust ports of the cylinder block are formed on the side wall at different heights as many as the number of combustion chambers. The sliding guides are placed opposite to each other on the side wall of the cylinder block, and vertically reciprocate along the side wall of the cylinder block. The plurality of piston heads are fixed between the sliding guides, and vertically reciprocates in the cylinder block by dividing the combustion space of the cylinder block into a plurality of combustion chambers. The intake and exhaust valves are mounted on the intake and exhaust ports, and close or open the exhaust and intake ports.
