PURPOSE: A backlight unit and a liquid crystal display including the same are provided to form a light refraction adhesion pattern between a first light guide plate and a second light guide plate of wedge shape or flat type and to omit a diffusing plate, a reflector plate or a transmitting reflection plate. CONSTITUTION: A first light guide plate(140) converts the light of a light source unit(150) into surface light. The first light guide plate emits the surface light in the first direction. A second light guide plate(142) converts the light of the light source unit into surface light. The second light guide plate emits the surface light in the second direction. A light refraction adhesion pattern(144) is formed between a first and a second light guide plates. The light refraction adhesion pattern refracts the light of the light source unit. The light refraction adhesion pattern fixes the first and second light guide plates.
