Provided is a method of increasing bone density, maintaining bone density and/or inhibiting loss of bone density and/or reducing osteochondral defects in an equine comprising administering to an equine an effective amount of a UV stable composition containing: vitamin K1, vitamin K2 or a mixture of vitamin KI and vitamin K2, together with a UV absorber and a physiologically acceptable carrier, excipient and/or diluent. The composition may be encapsulated in cyclodextrin and contain beta-carotene.
