The invention relates to a method for operating a rinsing liquid device (2) in a household appliance (1) for cleaning pieces of laundry, such as a washer/dryer according to which condensate generated during a cleaning process as rinsing liquid is collected in a rinsing container (5) guiding the condensate to an operating phase for removing lint from a heat exchanger (8) of a heat pump; and guiding the rinsing liquid into a collection container (4) or an external waste water system (19) based upon a specific connection type stored in a control unit during initial commissioning of the rinsing liquid device (2), by specifically actuating a control element (16) of the household appliance.
