Disclosed is an apparatus for generating electricity from fluid currents. The apparatus comprises a continuous loop structure (1) and at least one blade (11) movably mounted to the loop structure (1). The blade (11) extends in a direction radially outward relative to the loop structure (1) and rotates about an axis of the loop structure (1). The at least one blade (11) interacts with fluid currents moving in a direction approximately parallel to the axis of the loop structure (1) to rotate the blade (11) about the axis of the continuous loop structure (1). At least a portion of the blade (11) intersects a plane of the loop structure (1) that is perpendicular to the axis of the loop structure (1). Rotation of the at least one blade (11) generates electrical energy.
