The present invention provides a plastic container (1) having a sidewall (2) defining a chamber and having an opening (6) at one end into the chamber; a base (4) extending from the sidewall and closing the second end, the base having an outer perimeter portion defining a support structure, an axially inwardly extending perimeter wall (29) spaced radially inwardly from the support structure forming an angle with a plane normal to an axis of the container of greater than about 80°, and a flexing pressure compensation panel (28,128) closing an end of the perimeter wall, the flexing panel moveable along an axis of the container to change the volume of the container.
