Disclosed is a hot water system (120) comprising a water storage tank (16), an instantaneous-type water heater (12), a pump (122), a diverter valve (124), at least one solar panel (98) and a controller (42). The storage tank (16) has first (134) and second (150) inlets and first (138) and second (30) outlets. The instantaneous-type water heater (12) has an inlet (18) and an outlet (20) in fluid communication with the first inlet (134) of the tank (16) and is adapted to energise in response to a flow of water through the water heater (12). The pump (122) has an inlet (142), in fluid communication with the first outlet (138) of the tank (16) and with a mains water supply (26), and an outlet (144). The diverter valve (124) has an inlet (126) in fluid communication with the outlet (144) of the pump (122), a first outlet (128) in fluid communication with the inlet (18) of the water heater (12) and a second outlet (130). The at least one solar panel (98) has an inlet (104), in fluid communication with the second outlet (130) of the diverter valve (124), and an outlet (108), in fluid communication the second inlet (150) of the tank (16). The controller (42) is adapted to selectively energise the pump (122) and to control the diverter valve (124) to direct water to the first outlet (128) of the diverter valve (124) for circulating water between the water heater (12) and the tank (16) or to direct water to the second outlet (130) of the diverter valve (124) for circulating water between the at least one solar panel (98) and the tank (16). |
