<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing glass plates of an arbitrary contour, particularly, glass substrates for recoding media from flat glass. <P>SOLUTION: The method for producing glass plates of an arbitrary contour from flat glass comprises the following steps: carving dividing lines along the contour at least on one side of the flat glass down to a certain depth T<SB POS="POST">glass plate</SB>, using a cutting device; and positioning the glass plate on a mat. The method is characterized in that a specified force F is applied to the flat glass so that the broken part is generated along the dividing lines, the broken part is extended all over through the entire thickness of the flat glass, and the glass plate is separated after the break. The glass plate is preferably a glass substrate for a storage medium, the dividing lines preferably correspond to circular dividing lines provided for the outside diameter and/or the inside diameter, and as the cutting device, a laser cutting device or a mechanical cutting device is preferably used. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
