[Class 108 (i)] [Also in Groups XXII, X, and XXXIII] A built-up metal body, especially a hollow body adapted for use as a fuselage or wing for aircraft or as carriage-work for vehicles, comprises a thin sheet metal plate 2 under tension, transverse frame members 1 being secured thereto by riveting or welding while longitudinal members 3 pass through apertures in the members 1 and are secured only to the end members 1<1>, 1<2>. The plate 2 may comprise cold-rolled rustless nickel-chrome steel. The amount of tension produced is such that it will not be neutralized by the compressive stresses caused in the body during use and the tension may vary around the circumference. |
