<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inexpensive plug gauge excellent in abrasion resistance by enabling even an alloy tool steel having a relatively low tempering temperature to be coated with a hard film. <P>SOLUTION: A base material 20 is configured by using a steel type, of which tempering temperature when performing heat treatment of hardening and tempering is not more than 180°C, among steel types specified by the "alloy tool steel material" standard according to JIS G 4404, and is coated by a hard film 22 by a spattering method at a treatment temperature which is not more than its tempering temperature.
