The present invention generally relates to the field of recombinant gene expression in host cells. In particular, the invention relates to a host cell for the recombinant expression of a mammalian interferon protein, said cell comprising (a) a functional endogenous trxB gene; and (b) an inactivated endogenous gor gene. The invention further relates to the use of such host cells for the recombinant expression of an interferon protein. The invention also provides a method for the recombinant expression of a soluble interferon in a host cell.
