The joint has a joint ball (1) arranged in an universal joint housing (10) and pre-tensioned by a bearing shell (5) and a locking ring (3) to rotatably and tiltably move in the housing. The locking ring surrounds a tap-side portion (5') of the bearing shell. An external thread portion (3') i.e. self-cutting screw thread portion, is formed at an external periphery of the locking ring and connected with an internal thread portion (10'), which is formed at an inner wall of the housing. The external thread portion is axially adjustable relative to a pivot pin axis. An independent claim is also included for a method for assembling a ball-and-socket joint.
