The invention relates to a roll winding device (1) for winding a material web, in particular a paper or cardboard web, onto at least one winding core to form a wound roll, comprising a support roller that can be placed on a winding roll assembly and moved by means of a hydraulic drive from a starting position in which the support roller is seated on the circumference (UH) of the winding core into a final position in which the support roller is seated on the circumference (UR) of the finished wound roll, wherein the hydraulic drive comprises a cylinder having a cylinder chamber and a piston chamber. The aim of the invention is to wind material webs that are sensitive to vibrations with the least problems possible. In order to achieve said aim, both the cylinder chamber and the piston chamber comprise a hydraulic throttle or can be directly connected to a hydraulic throttle via a line. The invention further relates to a method for winding material webs.
