<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To highly accurately detect a defect in an exhaust purification system with a selective reduction NO<SB POS="POST">x</SB>catalyst provided in an exhaust passage of an internal combustion engine. <P>SOLUTION: A defect in a reduction agent supply device can be detected based on a difference ΔPhox between the rate of NO<SB POS="POST">x</SB>purification at a temperature equal to or higher than an activating temperature and equal to or lower than a NO<SB POS="POST">x</SB>purification rate decreasing temperature that is a temperature where the rate of NO<SB POS="POST">x</SB>purification starts decreasing according to an increases in the temperature of a NO<SB POS="POST">x</SB>catalyst, and the rate of NO<SB POS="POST">x</SB>purification at a temperature higher than the NO<SB POS="POST">x</SB>purification rate decreasing temperature. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
