PURPOSE: An effective target extracting method is provided to prevent extraction of an unnecessary part by extracting a desired object by automatic setting of an effective section. CONSTITUTION: A stereo camera automatically sets up a valid section in case an effective target exists within a photographing area of a stereo camera(S430,S440). The stereo camera updates a mask M(x,y) according to the set effective section(S450). The stereo camera extracts an effective target from S(x,y) photographed by multiplication of the updated mask M(x,y).
