Disclosed is a fuel cell comprising: a unit cell having, in the following order, an anode, an electrolyte film and a cathode; a liquid fuel accommodating section that comprises a space for accommodating or circulating liquid fuel,is arranged on the anode side, and is open on the anode side; and a first humidifying layer arranged between the unit cell and the liquid fuel accommodating section. This fuel cell may further comprise a second humidifying layer arranged on the cathode. This fuel cell may be a direct alcohol type fuel cell. The liquid fuel may be for example pure methanol or an aqueous solution of methanol.
