<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the speed and the stability in forming a monochrome image in a color image forming apparatus. <P>SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus comprises: a photoreceptor which is an electrostatic latent image carrier moving in one-way with a cyclic structure; and a plurality of image forming units each one of which includes a charging unit, an exposure unit forming an electrostatic latent image on a surface of the photoreceptor, and one or more developing units developing an image by supplying a developer to the electrostatic latent image with no contact therewith. The image forming apparatus includes: a first image generation mode for generating a multicolor image by overlaying each monochrome image formed by the image forming units on the surface of the photoreceptor; and a second image generation mode for generating a monochrome image using a developing unit A belonging to one of the image forming units other than provided in the most upstream side with respect to the moving direction of the photoreceptor, and a charging unit and an exposure unit belonging to either of the other image forming units provided in the more upstream side than the image forming unit to which the developing unit A belongs. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
