<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an LED that prevents visible light other than mixed-color visible light from being emitted to the outside when obtaining the mixed-color visible light consisting of visible light of an LED chip and visible light of a phosphor. <P>SOLUTION: The LED has a blue LED chip 16 and nonwoven fabric 26 impregnated with a light-transmissive binder having a larger refractive index than air and carrying the phosphor, and obtains white light by color mixing of the blue visible light and the visible light of the phosphor. The LED chip 16 is enclosed with a non-light-transmissive first frame member 20, and a peripheral edge 26a of the nonwoven fabric 26 is mounted on the first frame member 20; and an inner end 34a of a non-light-transmissive second frame member 34 enclosing the LED chip 16 is disposed on the nonwoven fabric 26, and the inner end 34a of the non-light-transmissive second frame member 34 is projected inward from a tip of an inner end 20a of the first frame member 20, the projection distance L being set to satisfy relations of L≥t×tanθ<SB>1</SB>and θ<SB>1</SB>=sin<SP>-1</SP>(1/n<SB>1</SB>).
